Job Postition: Session Supervisor
Job Description:
This job is a fixed term contract for 3 years but may be renewed subject to funding
CAMTAD seeks to help people with acquired deafness to achieve independence, and enjoy fulfilling lives
within society. It campaigns for this amongst the general public. This job is pivotal to achieving this aim.
Hours: 22.5 per week = to 3 days
Leave: 25 days pro rata
Notice: One month’s notice
4 months’ probationary period.
Pay: £22,000 rising to £22,500 after probation. Pro rata
Probation: 6 months
Pension: 7% of salary
Key responsibilities

Manage hearing help sessions in Cambridgeshire and a volunteer task force to service them.
Responsible to the senior session supervisor. This will be the largest part of the role.

Manage and develop the programme for spreading information about hearing help assistive
equipment, through demonstrations, the CAMTAD equipment loans scheme and other initiatives, and
manage the volunteer task force who assist in this. Responsible to the director.

Assist the director in the training of new volunteers and help to develop initiatives for training in
deaf awareness and knowledge of hearing impairment in the care setting. Responsible to the director.
Detailed tasks:
Hearing Help Sessions
- Attend hearing help sessions in accordance with a rota agreed with the senior session
supervisor.
- Co-ordinate volunteer attendance at those sessions.
- Support and encourage volunteers at all times and where necessary take on volunteers’ tasks at
reception or in the maintenance of hearing aids.
- Keep up to date with knowledge on matters relating to deafness, hearing loss and CAMTAD
procedures and ensure that this knowledge is passed on to volunteers.

Manage the sessions in accordance with agreed CAMTAD practices and procedures.

Attend the CAMTAD Best Practice Advisory Group and feed back ideas for improvement or
causes for concern to the director or senior session supervisor as appropriate.
Equipment
- Understand the range of assistive equipment available for hearing loss and its uses.

Keep up to date with changes in technology and new equipment available and advise the
director on appropriate equipment to demonstrate or loan to service users.

Support the volunteer equipment team and office staff with training on up to date equipment.

Assist the director in planning equipment demonstrations.

Monitor the equipment loaned to service users to ensure it is up to date and the range is
appropriate.
Training

Assist the director to design and deliver volunteer training.

Help the director to develop a hearing loss and hearing aids training programme for care staff in
residential homes and others.

Undertake delivery of other training and give talks as required.
Generally

Assist in the smooth running of the organisation and support other staff in the performance of
their duties.

Attend charity events and meetings as required.
Person Specifications
This job would suit someone who is technically minded and wishes to progress in the role of volunteer
manager. You must be independent and self reliant as the hearing help sessions are in different venues
around the county and you will be managing volunteers on your own. You will be working with
vulnerable older people so you will need to be sensitive to their needs. Full training will be given and the
post holder should be willing to undertake the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
training qualification.
Essential

Educated to “A” level standard including English and Maths GCSE grade C or above.

Own transport.

Good communication skills.

Experience of work with older people or people with a sensory impairment in health or social
care or audiology.

A flexible approach.

A willingness to develop and assist in the growth of CAMTAD.

An interest in technology and how it can help people with a hearing impairment.

Awareness of the challenges faced by people who are Deaf/deaf or hearing impaired.
